Appetite Control Natural Compounds Found
For some people, eating is not merely due to hunger but simply to satisfy the appetite. Researchers found a compound in the brain that can suppress appetite, which was developed to overcome addiction to alcohol and drugs.
This compound is hemopressin, which naturally works by affecting the pleasure centers in the brain (reward center). Pleasure center is the most active in the brain when someone is eating a small meal or consume alcohol.
Therefore, researchers from Manchester University who recently found her to believe, these compounds could also be developed to control an addiction to alcohol and drugs. And, most importantly, the use of natural compounds that are free of side effects.
A synthetic compound to suppress appetite has developed six years ago. His name is rimonabant, and was marketed as a therapy antiobesitas. But not long on the market, this product is finally
withdrawn because it has some dangerous side effects. Of them can trigger depression to suicide.
In contrast to these synthetic products, hemopressin claimed much more secure. Garron Dr. Dodd is involved in the research, said tests by adding these compounds in rat brain showed no side effects that can affect behavior.
However, although safe in mice, Dr. Dodd does not want to rush estimate the possibility for use
in humans. He was planning further research to verify it.
"At least, this finding opens an understanding of how the brain controls appetite, and how to
manipulate it," Dr Dodd said, while revealing his plans to develop a drug that works by increasing
antiobesitas hemopressin production.
One of the drugs currently used antiobesitas is Orlistat, and has been used by hundreds of
thousands of people around the world. The drug works by preventing the absorption of fat.
